Who would be your audience for your media production?
To decide on what is going to be the stereotypical person in watching our thriller we did our research, i did this to make an audience profile and had to decide what age to put on our thriller . In looking at thrillers it was obvious that the lowest BBFC age rating i could potentially give our piece was a 12 as it is not appropriate for children younger. Thrillers are known for Action, violence, strong language, and disturbing scenes which may harm people. From going from my research i came across a website called www.bbfc.co.uk, this website helped me to decide what age restriction to put on my piece. I found the bbfc website very helpful as you can also look at thrillers and see the why they were given the age restriction they have and for why they got the age rating they got. The BBFC ( British Board of Film Classification) from doing my research from this website i have decided to put a 15 as the classification on our film as it shows graphic and disturbing content, the idea of the knife may intimidate someone who is young. However, i also think our film could also potentially be a 12 because from our opening it doesn't show any strong language or brutal scenes. I don't think our film could be a 12 A as i don't think the film is appropriate for someone under 12 even if there is an adult with them.
From this i would say our target audience is probably 15-30 as this is the main age of people who watch films and i would say thrillers are more likely to be watched by a younger audience as it keeps them on the edge of there seats. I would say this is a rough average though as it is legal for someone younger to watch a 15 at home if bought by a parent. Although, i would be advisable that our film has disturbing images in it so i would advise that it shouldn't be watched by anyone under the age of 12.
I would say our film can be watched by male and females as in our piece there is a strong female actress meaning that more females are going to watch a thriller, meaning there will be a wider audience making the film enjoyable for both genders. This because of having both genders in our piece makes it more appealing to watch. I would say the person who is typically going to watch this film is someone who goes to secondary school, university or has a full/part time job. I think our film is more likely to be watched by someone at school or at university as they have more time on there hands and a chance they are going to watch it with friends from both genders. Also these people are more likely to go out to the cinema and watch the film and can buy the dvd. For someone who has a part/full time job they are most likely to watch it on there own or with a there other half or friends, if they have there own house/flat they may watch it from when they come back from work etc.
The person who watches our film probably will have an interest in thrillers as it is,they probably have watched thrillers before such as: Casino Royale, Jaws, The conjuring, Se7en, American Horror Story. Even though American Horror Story isn't a film it would still inspire the viewer to watch a thriller film. The viewer may also like reading where they like reading thriller books such as The girl on the train.
Our thriller will be targeted at explorers, this is someone who is interested in watching something new and something to haven't seen similar before and has a variety of genre’s . There are also multiple sub-the main target audience. Explorers is usually someone who is young and have spare time looking for a film to watch, this links with the idea of our audience being a younger generation .Thrillers also offer mystery and discovery which will be appealing to explorers as they enjoy new and different things and it will keep them of the edge of there seats.
Before creating our film we created a vox pop asking people what there favourite thriller was and why they liked it, this helped us create an audience profile and helped us what to put in our thriller film. After we finished creating our opening and got audience feedback, i felt that our thriller was like more by females because of the strong female role, i felt that younger people preferred our opening as it showed a little girl in it. I still agree with the type of young person who would watch it would be an explorer and would say that our thriller as a audience from someone who is about 14-20 . I felt that someone over 20 would not be as scared from our thriller then someone from a younger age.
