How do you attract the audience/address the audience?

I think that our first shot was effective to the audience as it was an establishing shot meaning that the audience can get a sense of where the film is set. Establishing shots give a sense of the time of the day, the location of the film set. An establishing shot is a classical shot used in the first scene of a film as it gives the audience an understanding on the piece and can understand the narrative more as the film sequence goes on.    Our shot of our missing poster also would attract the audience because they can get a sense of the narrative and create their own ideas in what happened to me and why I went missing.  The picture of me on the poster gives away clues of what my name is and what I look like and how old i am. For the missing shot poster we used extreme close up to show specific detail so that the audience will be able to see the picture and the writing below it so they can gather their own clues.

 

When creating our production we had dual narrative this is where the film is shown from the protagonist perspective and the antagonist’s perspective. We decided to have a dual narrative because it shows both perspectives so that audience can see both sides of the story.  The first person in the dual narrative is usually more intimate and personal to the audience which in our piece would be Aaron. The second person is usually not shown as much but you get to see the reaction of the events from there perspective in which in this case would be me.   The audience can understand this through the variety of shots we use throughout our piece. For example, when Aaron is running away there is two perspectives of me chasing after him.  We showed dual narrative by having quick edits as well to create tension between both characters.

 

 

 I think that these 3 shots were effective and appealing to the audience because they were creating suspicion to the audience. In the first shot you can see a low angle of the floor with the knife on the floor, this is making the audience think as to why there is a knife on the floor making them wanting to carry on with the film to see why there is a knife on the floor.     Our second shot is a danger sign this would attract the audience as the sign is repeated throughout the production. The idea of it being repeated is to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, as it is creating suspension. The idea of the lighting changing from the first danger sign is to make the writing stand out more, we decided to do this so that the audience can understand that the danger is getting closer. We used another extreme close up for this shot so that the audience would feel intimidated by the sign as it shows danger is ahead. We were trying to create a sinking feel for the audience as the flashes of the danger sign throughout the film was supposed to make them feel jumpy. We used the danger signs when the tension of the music raised to create more of an eerie feeling. In the third shot this would attract the audience as it is an over the shoulder shot of Aaron walking towards the building. This would attract the audience as they haven’t seen inside the building yet and they are getting there first glimpses of inside the building. As you can see from the screenshot that the building is abandoned from the rotting wood hanging of the side of the building and the roof decaying away. We were lucky that when filming this the weather was bright as it shows more of a contrast between where the roof has come away and where the sky is shining down through it, if the weather was dull it would very hard to capture as it wouldn’t show much of a contrast and wouldn’t look as effective.

In the second screenshot you can see that Aaron is wearing a suit this shows he is someone from a high paid job. This would attract the audience at this part of the production as they don’t know why he is there and also what his job is, this will make the audience try and guess what he does for a living. A few shots after third Aaron takes his phone out his pocket and opens a message showing details about this girl who has gone missing.  This suggests too the audience that he is a detective.

 

 

As you can see from these two screenshots there is Aaron Running and me running after him. Both shots are from different perspectives and show the idea of dual narrative. We thought the idea of having this shot of me running because it shows the idea of abandonment of the ruins of the building. The idea of the building being abandoned creates a sinister effect and a sense of mystery. We used similar shots of both the characters doing similar actions that it would appeal to the audience as he shots are similar this shows the idea of how close the protagonist and antagonist are similar to one another. We show dual narrative twice within the shots as when Aaron is walking towards the entrance of the gates we had the similar action from me however you have it from me behind so that my identity isn’t given away. We thought these shots would attract the audience because it shows the idea that I am not supposed to be there so when I go running after Aaron it shows im seeking help. The mid shot of me shows the background of the ruins of the building showing how it has been neglected. From the rule of thirds idea you can see that I am in the centre of the shot meaning I am the centre of attention and that my eye contact will come In to contact with the audiences. Also from these two shots I am showing the idea of dual narrative as from the first shot it is Aarons perspective of him running away from me. And from my perspective you can see I am chasing him.       

This is the last shot within our piece which would appeal to the audience. This is because from the shot type you aren’t expecting me to be there making it jumpy towards the audience. We included two types of shot in one shot, as we have a point of view tracking shot of Aaron running and then he turns in to a close up of me staring him. This is to intimidate the audience.   This shot shows my gormless face asi stare at Aaron. As I show no expression on my face is links with our idea of pyscho as it looks like I have a mental disorder. The audience will want to carry on watching our piece because they will want to find out what happens to me. The idea of me being behind a barred fence makes me look like im trapped within the building this links with the idea of my mental state of me being trapped. As you are shown after this shot it is more of an extreme close up of me and you can see that I am out of breath after I have been trying to chase Aaron. The idea of me being out of breath shows that I am unfit and weak this links to my idea of young age.
